Have you spotted Usain Bolt outside Waitrose in Harborne? To celebrate ‘1 year to go’ until the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, we’ve installed three new sports-inspired wicker sculptures along Harborne High Street. The sculptures, including a larger-than-life Usain Bolt, can be found outside Waitrose, Hawkshead and Harborne Pool & Fitness.
The sculptures were originally part of Birmingham City Council’s Gold Award Winning Display at the Chelsea Flower Show 2018. Members of our hawk-eyed BID team spotted the planters in a potting shed whilst out sourcing ideas for this year’s flower display in Harborne, and just couldn’t let them go to waste! We’re delighted that we’ve managed to upcycle the sculptures and give them a new lease of life – just in time for the Harborne Green Village Fete! And of course, as always, as part of the BID’s ‘Clean and Green’ focus, we’ve made a special effort to ensure that each planter is specifically designed to attract insects and bees.
If you look closely you can already see the bees enjoying the flowers in our pictures below! These planters are just one part of our wider plan to be more environmentally conscious here in Harborne.
A special shoutout goes to each and every BID business that has helped to fund these beautiful planters and let us see Harborne in bloom this Summer. And a huge thank you to the team at Birmingham City Council’s Cofton Nurseries for supplying the planters.
Are you as excited as we are to see Harborne in bloom? If you take any pictures of our beautiful new flowering planters, feel free to email them to us via harborne@tigerbam.co.uk as we’d love to see them! Please note, some images may be used by Harborne Village in the future.
