This week is Fire Door Safety Week and a good opportunity to check all the fire doors within your building. Fire doors are a crucial element in fire safety in every commercial, public and multiple occupancy building. Installed and maintained correctly they can hold back fire and smoke and form a critical part of the fire safety arrangements in a building. They are there for the protection of both the lives of those in the building and the property itself.

A fire door can only work correctly if it is installed and maintained correctly. If people spot the signs of a poorly installed or maintained fire door they are encouraged to report it so it can be repaired.

Fire doors that are damaged, poorly fitted or wedged open are not fire doors, they are just doors – they will not save lives or protect the property. We encourage people to look at the leaflet below and use the information to report any fire door problems they find to ensure the fire door is repaired and working correctly.

Please take some time out from your day and check the fire doors within your building. The attached 5 Step Fire Door Check leaflet will help you to check your fire doors for any faults or poor installation.

If you need any further help or guidance please contact West Midlands Fire Service on FireSafety.Admin@wmfs.net @WMFS_BSV #FireDoorSafetyWeek
