Independent Retailer Month Spotlight: THE BUN & BARREL

We asked the Harborne community for their favourite independents and received an overwhelming response. For Independent Retail Month, we want to highlight these businesses, the real people that run them and the wonderful contribution they make to the High Street!

Our first business highlight is The Bun & Barrel, selected by many Harbornites on Facebook and Instagram!

The Bun & Barrel is a recent addition to the High Street, a burger restaurant with a laid back atmosphere but a dedication to great food. The restaurant is co-owned by Harborne Kitchen’s Jamie Desogus and his close friend and accomplished restaurant manager Rob Hennebry. While Rob is new to Harborne, Jamie has been a long time resident here!

The restaurant has a comfortable setting, complete with a pool table and an extensive menu of burgers, sides and desserts that rival any fine dining restaurant. On the menu, you can find the must-try B&B House Burger, alongside chicken, cod and veggie options. Sides include classics – a simple, perfect portion of fries – and new, innovative dishes including sweetcorn ribs, B&B nachos and loaded hash browns. On top of this, Bun & Barrel also has beers from the Stirchley brewery Attic Brew Co.

The menu can often change, which co-owner Rob says is a positive about being an Independent. “Being in the community, we get to speak with people directly and if there is a local preference we can adapt immediately.”

Bun & Barrel opened in January but is quickly becoming a local favourite. Recently, they had a successful day serving burgers at The Harborne Carnival, extended their kitchen opening times on Friday’s and Saturday’s to 9:30pm, introduced special themed menu items, including the “Bun & Dog”, and joined The Harborne Market for the month of July. 

The busy schedule is born from the same drive that led both Rob and Jamie to open The Bun & Barrel in the first place: “We do what we do out of love. Come and support us.”
