Why are you based in Harborne?
One of the goals of the Church of England is to be a Christian presence in every community across the country. St John’s was founded in 1856 to serve Harborne Village and has done exactly that for over 150 years. As a longstanding member part of Harborne we feel shaped by – and part of what has helped shape – the village, with our roots firmly intertwined with the local community.
What do you love most about Harborne?
Harborne is full of characterful shops and beautiful houses. Despite being close to the city centre, it retains a village feel and has its own identity. All that’s missing is an Aldi!
What makes your business unique?
As a large church community we are able to offer a broad range of activities and events to serve the local parish, from debt counselling and toddler groups to Alpha Courses, caring for the elderly and more. We don’t do this for profit or status, but because we follow the teachings of Jesus who taught us to love our neighbours.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
This really shouldn’t come as a surprise: it’s Jesus! Widely acknowledged as the most influential person in all of history, Jesus Christ and his teachings are the inspiration for what we do and why we do it.
